1,160 Seedlings Planted to Re-Green Tch©riba School Grounds on National Tree Day

Mouhoun: The municipality of Tch©riba marked the 8th National Tree Day on June 20, 2026, by planting 1,160 seedlings in the village of Gamadougou, situated around twelve kilometers from the municipal capital. The event was led by the President of the Special Delegation (PDS) of Tch©riba, Ouesseni Logora.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the reforestation initiative was held at Gamadougou primary school grounds with the goal of sustainably enhancing the school environment. Participants planted 1,100 Acacia nilotica trees to create a natural fence around the facility, along with 30 pecan and 30 neem trees to provide shaded areas for students in the future.

The event attracted a large number of supporters who gathered to endorse the initiative. Ouesseni Logora highlighted the importance of community involvement in national efforts to restore vegetation cover and emphasized the crucial role of maintaining the seedlings to ensure the operation's success.

He urged the local population, teachers, and students to remain vigilant in nurturing the plants and announced plans for follow-up visits to monitor the progress of the plantations. Abou Banao, the village chief of Gamadougou, expressed gratitude for choosing his locality for the celebration and reaffirmed the community's commitment to protecting the plants.

Teachers at the school, tasked with overseeing the plant growth, assured that they will collaborate with students to ensure the trees receive regular maintenance and care. The reforestation effort received support from environmental services and the Catholic Organization for Development and Solidarity (OCADES) of the Diocese of D©dougou.
