Ouagadougou: Lieutenant Colonel Tewende Mathieu NANA, representing the Commander of the Brigade of Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland (BVDP), presided over the end-of-training ceremony for 342 recruits of the Faso Mebo Presidential Initiative this Thursday morning at the National VDP Training Center.

According to Burkina Information Agency, these 342 Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland (VDPs) were part of the initiative aimed at constructing infrastructure and received initial military training as part of their preparation. The Commander of the National VDP Training Center, Commander Ousseni K. ZIDA, emphasized that the recruits were trained in combat techniques and tactics and were educated on patriotism, civic-mindedness, revolution, and Pan-Africanism. Commander ZIDA noted that these skills equip the VDPs to serve as a reserve force, ready to meet the expectations of their superiors.

The National Coordinator of the Faso Mebo Initiative, Commander Zoodnoma Ahmed SAKANDE, highlighted the
strategic importance of infrastructure development as part of the nation’s defense strategy. He noted that the construction of roads, urban centers, and housing is crucial for the dignity and well-being of the people. Commander SAKANDE stressed that defending the homeland involves more than military actions; it includes building essential infrastructure such as bridges, schools, hospitals, and roads.

The release of this second wave of trained recruits will bolster the four brigades in the regions of Bankui, Koulse, Goulmou, and Yaadga. These regions received over 700 devices from the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim TRAORE, on September 12, which will aid in their development efforts.

Arthur Kevin P. NANEMA, the general delegate of the class, expressed pride in the completion of their training and readiness to contribute to the development of Burkina Faso within the framework of the Faso Mebo Presidential Initiative.
