Kaya: The governor of the Koulse region, Colonel-Major Blaise Ouedraogo, invited the population and youth in particular to take ownership of the cultural heritage on Wednesday in Kaya, during the launch ceremony of the 4th edition of the Burkinab¨ heritage month. The ceremony was marked by the raising of the national colours in the presence of the constituted bodies, followed by the message from the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traore, transmitted by Colonel-Major Blaise Ouedraogo.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the governor emphasized the role of youth in safeguarding and promoting national cultural identity. He stated, "If our youth manage to take ownership of our cultural heritage, we are sure to have a place in the concert of Nations in about fifty years," and welcomed the willingness of the highest authorities to dedicate a moment to the national heritage.
The regional director in charge of Culture, Safiata Oubda, announced several activities throughout the month, including tourist excursions and visits to cultural sites for schoolchildren and local people. "The goal is to make our cultural sites known to the younger generation and to foster a collective commitment to preserving our values," she said, noting that heritage concerns all social classes and that domestic tourism will be particularly valued.
The regional director also presented Dominique Ouedraogo, crowned the new Living Human Treasure (LHT) of Kaya, in the category of know-how related to traditional crafts. The ceremony was also an opportunity to recognize students who excelled in national school competitions organized by the Ministry of Secondary, Vocational and Technical Education.
Ambassadors from the Koulse region won a gold medal in men's cycling and several other prizes in women's cycling, theatre, and traditional dance. The regional authority congratulated the new THV and the young people for their commitment and excellence.
Officially launched at the national level on April 18, 2026, in Ouahigouya under the theme "Heritage and cultural diversity: commitment, roles and responsibilities of actors", the 4th edition of the Burkinabe Heritage Month will extend until May 18, 2026.
