Dedougou:The 66th anniversary of the national armed forces commenced with a series of sports activities on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at the Dedougou garrison. The opening festivities included a popular cross-country race and an aerobics session, marking the beginning of the celebrations under the theme "National armed forces and military reserves for a sovereign defense of the homeland."

According to Burkina Information Agency, the event was held under the patronage of Battalion Chief Belemkoabga Ambroise, Commander of the security forces of the Boucle du Mouhoun. Commander Abdoul Rahim Sangui Zerbo represented the sponsor at the launch ceremony, which was attended by military leaders, heads of paramilitary bodies, and administrative authorities of the Bankui region.

Participants in the cross-country race included military personnel, paramilitaries, and civilians, who later joined for an aerobics session. Commander Zerbo, on behalf of the sponsor, encouraged participation in the ongoing activities and expressed gratitude to the Sports Office for organizing the event. He also acknowledged the support of administrative authorities present at the ceremony.

The commemorative program includes a conference, a military balloon competition, and the main ceremony scheduled for November 1st. Commander Zerbo emphasized the importance of physical fitness and endurance demonstrated through the cross-country race, noting its role in strengthening cohesion necessary for mission success.

Commander Zerbo extended his encouragement to all participants and wished them success in the continuation of the anniversary activities. He paid tribute to fallen martyrs and called on the population to support the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) in honoring the memory of the martyrs and jointly commemorating the 66th anniversary of the national armed forces.
