78 Medicinal Plants Planted at Nafona Regional Science High School

Banfora:78 medicinal plant species were planted at the Nafona Regional Science High School in Banfora, Tannounyan region, as part of a community development initiative.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the National Volunteer Program in Burkina Faso (PNVB) led the reforestation activity, mobilizing 10,000 volunteers to launch three initiatives focused on community development in the country. The effort was executed in collaboration with the Public Interest Group-National Volunteer Program in Burkina Faso (GIP-PNVB) and the National Bureau for Major Projects of Burkina Faso (BN-GPB).

Lieutenant Halouna Gnissi of the Como Provincial Directorate of Wildlife and Forests highlighted the choice of the high school for its secure environment, which is conducive to the plants' survival. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the trees and urged students and school officials to monitor them regularly.

Ali Traor, head of the Tannounyan regional volunteer branch, noted that this initiative showcases the volunteers' contributions to community development and environmental preservation.

Inoussa Sawadogo, the principal of the Nafona Regional Science High School, expressed appreciation for the initiative and committed to maintaining the plants. A unique strategy was introduced, assigning each student a plant to care for throughout their time at the school, ensuring consistent oversight.

Sawadogo expressed his joy at the planting and thanked the volunteers for selecting the school for this project. He reiterated the school's dedication to fostering the growth and survival of the plants.
