Namentenga Customs and Traditions Day Observed with Sacred Offerings

Namentenga: Naaba Sonre, the chief of Boulsa canton, marked Thursday, May 15, 2025, as the National Day of Customs and Traditions with offerings made to the sacred hill of Tan Yiille to ask for peace, health, and prosperity for his canton and Burkina Faso. On this occasion, the rooster that was slaughtered fell on its back, proving that the offerings were accepted by the ancestors.According to Burkina Information Agency, on the evening of Thursday, May 15, 2025, the notables of the court, after discussions with Naaba Sonre, went to the sacred hill of Tan Yiille with a rooster and a goat to perform the sacrifices relating to the day of customs and traditions. On the spot, facing the fetishes, the Dapornaaba, responsible for carrying out the ritual, pronounced incantations while first slaughtering the rooster and then the goat. The rooster, without struggling, fell onto its back, signifying that the ancestors had accepted the offerings made to them."Our wishes are granted," the Dapornaaba confided with a sm ile as he turned to the notables who had witnessed the scene. "Mission well accomplished. We have carried out the sacrifices in accordance with the desired instructions. We have asked for peace for Burkina Faso. Long life to the President of Faso, and health, happiness, and prosperity to the people of the canton and the country," he said.On the occasion, Naaba Sonre, the chief of Boulsa canton, paid tribute to the authorities for their restored dignity, while noting that there is hope for this year. "I thank the President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traore, for establishing this day for us," he said.Provincial authorities, led by High Commissioner Adama Conseiga, wished the canton chief and his notables, who had mobilized for the occasion, a happy May 15 celebration. This day of customs and traditions was supported by the Talents Amende association and cultural entertainment troupes at the royal court of Boulsa.
