Ouagadougou: The Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Resources, Commander Isma«l Sombi©, announced the deployment of more than 300 communal agricultural mechanization brigades. These brigades are tasked with ensuring the efficient and monitored management of agricultural equipment provided by President Ibrahim Traor©.
According to Burkina Information Agency, each brigade is led by a department head who manages the agricultural equipment in their respective municipalities. These brigades report directly to the Directorate of Agricultural Mechanization, which falls under the General Directorate of Plant Production. Minister Sombi© shared this information during the program Le Tapis d'honneur on Burkina National Radio (RTB-Radio).
The provided equipment, which includes tractors, cultivators, and post-harvest tools, is intended to reduce the labor intensity of agricultural work, expedite cultivation processes, and facilitate multiple agricultural campaigns annually. Commander Sombi© highlighted the state's substantial investment, amounting to more than 77 billion FCFA in 2024 and 104 billion FCFA in 2025, reflecting the prioritization of the agricultural sector by the Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traor©.
To ensure transparency, each piece of equipment is equipped with electronic trackers for real-time geolocation. These devices allow the ministry to monitor the location, usage time, and areas worked, with data compared against reports from brigade leaders. Minister Sombi© emphasized the need for rigorous management of this equipment, considering the financial investments made by the Burkinabe State, and reiterated the government's commitment to modernizing the agricultural sector sustainably.
