Cooperation Multilateral: ONU Respects Burkina Faso Sovereignty

Ouagadougou: Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo granted an audience to a United Nations delegation led by its Regional Director for Africa, Yacoub Ali El Hillo. This meeting marks the culmination of a three-day stay during which the UN delegation engaged in "frank and constructive" discussions with the Burkinabe authorities.According to Burkina Information Agency, a few days after the expulsion of the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Burkina Faso, Carol Flore-Smereczniak, a UN delegation was dispatched to Ouagadougou to renew dialogue with the Burkinabe authorities. "We have just concluded a very cordial visit to the Prime Minister, following a three-day mission to Burkina Faso, where we had the opportunity to interact with the Burkinabe Government, with our own United Nations country team, currently under interim leadership, but also with our partners in the international community," Mr. El Hillo said as he left the audience.During the meeting, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Burkina Fas o's willingness to collaborate with the United Nations system in full transparency, while remaining a key player in its development. He emphasized that Burkina Faso is fighting for its sovereignty and will not tolerate any action tending to legitimize terrorism.Recognizing the sensitive nature of the current context, the head of delegation indicated that the United Nations fully respects the sovereignty of Burkina Faso. The Organization reaffirmed its commitment to continuing its partnership with the country and intends to continue working alongside the authorities to support development and resilience efforts."This partnership is solid and growing stronger, despite this exceptional moment, which we regret of course, but for which we fully respect the decision of the Burkinabe Government. We respect the sovereignty of Burkina Faso, and we are committed to continuing to move forward, in service and in full partnership, for the benefit of the people of this great country," concluded Mr. Yacoub Ali El Hillo.This visit, which takes place in a context of readjustment of relations between Burkina Faso and certain international partners, constitutes a strong signal in favor of maintaining dialogue and cooperation.
