Morocco Secures Record Third CHAN Title with Victory Over Madagascar

Nairobi: Morocco's Atlas Lions A' claimed their third African Nations Championship (CHAN) title on Saturday with a 3-2 victory over Madagascar's Bareas, solidifying their status as the most successful team in the tournament's history.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the match in Nairobi saw an early lead for Madagascar with a goal by Felicite Manohantsoa in the 9th minute. However, Morocco responded strongly, equalizing through Yousef Mehri in the 27th minute. Oussama Lamlioui, the competition's top scorer, further solidified Morocco's dominance with two goals in the 44th and 80th minutes, bringing his total to six goals for the tournament. Madagascar's Toky Rakotondraibe momentarily leveled the score at 2-2 in the 69th minute.

This latest victory marks Morocco's third CHAN triumph, following their wins in 2018 on home soil and in 2020 in Cameroon. Moroccan captain Mohamed Rabie Hrimat was awarded the tournament's best player, while Oussama Lamlioui's scoring prowess earned him the top scorer accolade. Senegal's Marc Diouf was recognized as the tournament's best goalkeeper. The previous champions, the Lions, secured third place by defeating Sudan in a penalty shootout.
