Kourittenga: The Human Rights Promotion Project Makes Its Closing Assessment

Kourittenga: The Association solidarite action faire Faso (ASAFF), in partnership with the APD and with support from UAT/Particip, organized a workshop on Thursday, September 25, 2025, in Koupela to review the Human Rights Promotion Project in the Nakambe region. The activity took place under the chairmanship of the Secretary General of the region, Sayouba Sawadogo, representing the governor.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Human Rights Promotion Project in the Nakambe region was implemented over the period 2024-2025 in the municipalities of Garango, Tenkodogo, and Koupela with a budget of 84,032,000 CFA francs. The project was 95% financed by technical and financial partners and 5% by the APD-ASAFF consortium.

The Nakambe region faces challenges such as rapid population growth, ethnic and religious diversity, and recurring community conflicts. In response, the PPDH-CE project aimed to promote human rights, prevent conflicts, and strengthen social cohesion, accountability, and citizen participation.

Sore Antoine, the facilitator of the legal shop of the Burkinabe Movement for Human and Peoples’ Rights (MBDHP)/Boulgou Section, indicated that there had been collaboration between two local structures. He mentioned that this strengthened field work and noted positive feedback from villages.

ASAFF President Eliasse Mone highlighted the impact of the project and called for its continuation, citing largely achieved objectives despite the evolving nature of human rights issues. Mone expressed readiness to expand efforts if funding opportunities arise and hoped other organizations would capitalize on existing accomplishments.

Despite the results, Mone acknowledged challenges that hampered the project’s optimal implementation. He cited schedule control issues, limited resources, and insecurity that prevented intervention in Koulpelogo. Mone expressed hope for improved security to allow regional activity expansion.

Project coordinator Salif Josias Dabo expressed satisfaction with the accomplishments despite the difficulties faced. He noted capacity strengthening for local stakeholders and assistance provided to vulnerable people, with participatory evaluations, a strengthened monitoring committee, and training provided as part of the integrated citizen participation initiative.

Secretary General Sayouba Sawadogo congratulated project leaders for the results and reaffirmed the regional administration’s commitment. He emphasized the importance of human rights as a national priority and encouraged organizations to continue efforts for peace and social cohesion.
