Nayala: The constituted bodies of the province of Nayala commemorated, this Friday, October 31, 2025, the Day of the Martyrs of the popular uprising of October 30 and 31, 2014, through a ceremony of remembrance held at the High Commission of the province of Nayala in Toma from 10:00 a.m.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony was led by Mr. Zakaria Sawadogo, prefect and president of the special delegation of the commune of Toma, representing the High Commissioner of Nayala. The event commenced with a minute of silence in honor of the martyrs. Mr. Sawadogo, in his address, paid homage to the sons and daughters of Burkina Faso who lost their lives during the historic uprising. He emphasized the significance of these dates as a “decisive turning point in the history of our nation,” highlighting the resilience of the Burkinabe people and their pursuit of justice and freedom. He remarked that the martyrs are not just victims but heroes of the national conscience, asserting that “peace cannot exist without justice, and justice cannot triumph without remembrance.”
Mr. Sawadogo further called upon all Burkinabe to persist in the efforts initiated by the martyrs, aiming to build a “stronger, fairer, and more united” Burkina Faso. He underscored the importance of every citizen’s contribution to a collective future. Additionally, Mr. Sawadogo expressed respect for the martyrs’ families, conveying the gratitude and solidarity of the Burkinabe people. He encouraged the youth to uphold the memory and continue the legacy of patriotism.
The ceremony concluded with a reflective and unified atmosphere, honoring those who sacrificed their lives for the cause of freedom and democracy in Burkina Faso. The prefect also invited the constituted bodies to attend a dedication event for the work of writer Marcus Dalla, scheduled to take place tomorrow at the CELPAC of Toma from 9:00 a.m.
