Martyrs’ Day: Koudougou Pays Tribute and Rekindles the Flame of Patriotism

Ouagadougou: Burkina Faso observed National Martyrs’ Day on Friday, dedicated to the memory of martyrs. At 10:00 a.m., a minute of silence was observed throughout the country in tribute to these fallen heroes. In Koudougou, the moment of reflection took place at the governorate square, mobilizing the constituted bodies of the region.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the message from the governor of the region, read by the Secretary General, Lucien Guenguere, emphasized the essential nature of this commemoration, which notably honors the victims of the popular uprising of October 30 and 31, 2014 and the resistance to the failed coup of September 2015. “It is an honor for me to speak at this memorial ceremony as part of the commemoration of Martyrs’ Day,” said the Secretary-General.

Beyond the symbolic rite, this moment of reflection is a “reminder of our common struggle, that of a future where every Burkinabe can flourish in peace and security,” he added. For him, this day is an opportunity to reaffi
rm the commitment of the sons and daughters of the country to the values of freedom, justice and good governance.

Concluding his speech, Mr. Guenguere emphasized the legacy of the martyrs: “The best tribute we can pay them is to position ourselves as torchbearers for their memory by tirelessly pursuing the work of building our country in order and discipline, in sobriety and integrity for a prosperous Burkina Faso, dignified and proud of its true independence.”
