Nahouri: The Union of Faso clinched the trophy by defeating FC Etalon with a score of 1 goal to 0 in the 13th edition of the maracana tournament for under-15s held in Po. The event took place on the field of sector N°5, under the theme “Youth football and training.”
According to Burkina Information Agency, the tournament featured 16 teams from the municipality of Po, who competed over three months, fostering a spirit of fraternity and fair play. The final match was a showdown between the Union du Faso team and FC Etalon, culminating in a victory for Union du Faso.
Remi Tenkodogo, the promoter and president of the sports association for development and solidarity, as well as the president of the P´ football club academy and AS customs, emphasized the tournament’s goal of promoting social cohesion and contributing to peace in Burkina Faso. The event also served as a platform to recruit talented young footballers for the P´ football club academy of AS douane, imparting values of civic-mindedness and patriotism.
Bouriema Balima, the secretary general of the Burkina Football Federation and sponsor of the edition, commended the organizing committee for consistently holding the tournament. The event paid tribute to Potani Bilgo, also known as “morihino,” the first promoter of the tournament, who passed away in February 2022.
The Union du Faso won the trophy and received an envelope of 100,000 CFA francs, a ball, and a set of jerseys. FC Etalon was awarded 75,000 CFA francs, a ball, and a set of jerseys. The teams ranked third and fourth also received prizes in cash and kind.
The final was attended by provincial authorities and notable personalities, including former Minister of Sports Daouda Azoupiou, who came to honor the memory of Potani Bilgo and support Remi Tenkodogo. Prior to the match, speakers lauded Tenkodogo for continuing the legacy of the tournament’s founder.
