Ouahigouya: More than 162,000 children in the Ouahigouya health district are set to receive vaccinations as part of a comprehensive polio immunization campaign officially launched on Sunday at the Gourga Health and Social Promotion Center (CSPS). The campaign also incorporates vitamin A supplementation, deworming, and malnutrition screening.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this campaign, which will conclude on November 10, 2025, aims to protect all children aged 0 to 59 months, irrespective of their prior vaccination status. The Ouahigouya health district, under the leadership of Chief Medical Officer Dr. Koudougou Kombassere, has called for widespread community mobilization to support the initiative.

At the CSPS in Sector 15 in Gourga, a gathering of administrative and health authorities, partners, and local residents marked the campaign's launch. High Commissioner of Yatenga Province, Tassere Nacoulma, officiated the event on behalf of the Governor of the Yaadga Region. Mr. Nacoulma highlighted Burkina Faso's long-standing battle against polio, thanking partners like the WHO and UNICEF for their ongoing support. He noted the change in public perception over the years, as parents increasingly recognize the health benefits of vaccinating their children.

Dr. Leandre Komi, speaking on behalf of the campaign partners, emphasized the importance of community involvement. He encouraged residents to ensure every child within the targeted age group receives the vaccine, urging them to act as ambassadors for the initiative. He assured the community that partners would collaborate closely with authorities to ensure the availability of necessary resources throughout the campaign.
