Zondoma: The municipality of Gourcy celebrated excellence in the education sector by organizing the first edition of the school excellence awards on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, rewarding those involved in education who distinguished themselves through their work during the 2024-2025 school year.
According to Burkina Information Agency, learners, teachers, educational supervisors, and parents of students were honored in a ceremony recognizing their contributions. The President of the special delegation (PDS) of Gourcy, Bosso Toe Kaba Tere, emphasized the necessity of this initiative in light of the quality school results achieved in the region's two basic education districts, Gourcy1 and Gourcy2. He affirmed the commitment to support education stakeholders to encourage further improvements.
The High Commissioner of the Zondoma province, Aboubacar Sidiki Nabe, who presided over the ceremony, endorsed the initiative, highlighting its importance in developing quality human resources. He urged all communes in Zondoma to incorporate the celebration of excellence into their agendas and congratulated the provincial actors for their outstanding results at both regional and national levels.
Karim Sawadogo, the Provincial Director in charge of education in Zondoma, confirmed that the best educational supervisor in Burkina Faso and the best teacher in the Northern region hail from Gourcy, asserting that their achievements deserve recognition. Pascal Ouedraogo, the sponsor of the event, congratulated all the winners and expressed his willingness to continue supporting the municipality in combating ignorance.
In total, 64 prizes, including laptops, bicycles, school and sanitation kits, and letters of commendation, were awarded. The "Super Teacher" awards were given to Jeanne d'Arc Kebre from Gourcy 1 and Bata Romba from Gourcy 2. The top-performing girls in the primary school leaving certificate (CEP) were Djelika Kabore and P. Pierrette Ouedraogo, while the top-performing boys were Kassoum Mande and P. Rodrigue Bonkouma.
The CEBs of Gourcy1 and Gourcy2 achieved success rates of 92.56% and 93.90% respectively in the CEP, and a 100% rate for entry into the sixth session of 2025. The municipality has now allocated a budget line to encourage the most deserving actors each year.
