Kadiogo and Djoro Excel at Inaugural Burkinabe National Archery Championship

Ouagadougou: The first edition of the Burkinabe national archery championship was held from November 28 to 29 in Ouagadougou in several categories and the Kadiogo and Djoro regions took the lion's share, AIB observed.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Burkina Faso Archery Federation, established three years ago, successfully organized its first national championship this season. Thirty-four archers from five regions of the country-Djoro, Kadiogo, Nando, Nazino, and Oubritenga-showcased their talent in this significant event.

The championship featured four competition categories: individual youth, individual men, individual women, and team, with contests in two types of shooting. In traditional team shooting, the Boulkiemde district emerged victorious over the Djoro League. Meanwhile, in Olympic shooting, Kadiogo triumphed over the Nahouri district.

In the men's individual competition (Olympic shooting), Ismael Sango from Kadiogo edged out Razack Ouiya, also from Kadiogo, by securing 26 points against Ouiya's 20 points. In the traditional shooting event, Gildas Pale from Djoro claimed victory over Salif Sawadogo from Kadiogo with a score of 25 to 20 points.

In the women's adult competition (Olympic shooting), Leila Ouedraogo from Kadiogo surpassed Frahina Noufe from Djoro, scoring 11 points to Noufe's 8 points. Conversely, in traditional shooting, it was Frahina Noufe who dominated, securing 25 points against Kabako Kam's 5 points, both from the same locality.

The individual youth competition saw Martin Nana from Boulkiemde excel in Olympic shooting for young boys, defeating Gregoire Kafando from Kadiogo with 32 points to 23. In traditional shooting, Sansa Dah from Djoro triumphed over Martin Nana with a score of 40 to 34 points.

Athlete Rabiatou Leila from Kadiogo expressed immense satisfaction with her gold medal in Olympic archery, noting the challenges she overcame. She stated, "I started training less than a month ago and fought hard to win this medal. It wasn't by chance, and the training paid off." Leila promised to train even harder for future competitions.

Basile Konate, president of the Burkinabe archery federation, expressed satisfaction with the championship's organization, emphasizing the importance of popularizing the sport. He highlighted the financial challenges, noting the lack of sponsorship and state subsidies, and thanked the Burkinabe National Olympic and Sports Committee for their support.
