Guiriko: The National Urban Land Development Company (SONATUR) officially laid the foundation stone for the SONATUR city in Bindougousso on Saturday in Bobo-Dioulasso, marking the launch of a large-scale real estate project intended to strengthen the supply of modern housing in the economic capital of Burkina Faso.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony was presided over by the Minister of Urban Planning and Housing, Mikailou Sidibe, and saw the participation of several government members along with administrative and customary authorities from the Guiriko region. Boureima Ouattara, Director General of SONATUR, described the future city of Bindougousso as "the beginning of a structuring project that will improve the living conditions of many families and contribute to the economic modernization of Bobo-Dioulasso."
The ambitious project will see the construction of 66 two-story duplexes and 17 three-story mixed-use buildings, adhering to current real estate development standards. This initiative is part of the national urban densification strategy aimed at optimizing land use while promoting modern, functional housing. SONATUR has also committed to building a 2,122-meter perimeter wall around the cemetery located on the Bindougousso site, recently returned to the municipality, to enhance security and address local needs.
Mr. Ouattara stated that the project would help reduce the deficit in quality housing, create jobs, increase the city's attractiveness for investors, and improve the living environment for future residents. The construction of Bindougousso city is a joint effort between SONATUR and the HAM Mali group, through its subsidiary HAM Burkina, aiming to "deliver a modern, functional and exemplary urban complex."
Minister Mikailou Sidibe expressed appreciation for the government solidarity demonstrated by the presence of the Minister of Public Service, Mathias Traore, and the Minister of Secondary Education, Vocational and Technical Training, Boubakar Savadogo. He emphasized that real estate development aligns with the President of Faso's vision for modern, productive urban planning that fosters economic opportunities.
