Bamako: The Burkinabe diaspora living in Mali is displaying strong enthusiasm for the Agency for the Promotion of Community Entrepreneurship (APEC) program, as witnessed during the International Handicrafts Fair of Mali (SIAMA). For several days, dozens of Burkinabe nationals have been eagerly enrolling in the program, convinced that APEC represents a significant opportunity to contribute to the development of Burkina Faso.
According to Burkina Information Agency, young Burkinabe from various parts of Mali are traveling considerable distances to register. Issaka Kone, who journeyed from Tubakoura, over five kilometers away, expressed his determination to register with APEC, emphasizing his commitment to the progress of Burkina Faso and the unity of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso. He encouraged fellow Burkinabe in Mali to enroll en masse to support their country's development.
The enthusiasm extends to the Koulikoro region, where many Burkinabe work in gold mining, education, and other labor sectors. Daouda Ouattara, delegate of the High Council of Burkinabe in Mali, noted that registrations are progressing steadily, with individuals traveling from distant locations like Touba, 140 kilometers from Bamako, to participate. Ouattara highlighted the importance of APEC for the community, noting the potential bonuses awaiting those who return to Burkina Faso and contribute to its development.
APEC officials view this mobilization as confirmation of the diaspora's support for the sovereignist vision promoted by Burkinabe authorities. Ms. Manasira Sanou/Traore, head of the promotion and reform service at APEC, explained that the awareness and prospecting mission at SIAMA aligns with President Ibrahim Traore's call for Burkinabe abroad to invest in their home country to foster industrialization. She assured that the response from Mali has been positive, with many pledging to subscribe to the program.
Since APEC's previous mission in September, around one hundred subscriptions have been registered, and the number continues to grow. Ms. Sanou/Traore encouraged the Burkinabe attending SIAMA to continue enrolling, aiming to achieve the vision of endogenous and inclusive development.
