Guiriko: Removal of the Municipal Pound and Clearing of the Area Around the Refrigerated Slaughterhouse

Bobo-dioulasso: The President of the Bobo-Dioulasso Municipal Special Delegation, Laurent Kontogom, has announced the closure of the municipal pound and the clearing of public land surrounding the Nieneta refrigerated slaughterhouse in Sector 12, District 3. This decision has been made for reasons related to security, public order, and hygiene.

According to Burkina Information Agency, these urgent precautionary measures are intended to ensure the optimal functioning of the veterinary infrastructure and to comply with safety and hygiene standards in the slaughter of animals intended for consumption. As part of this initiative, starting Sunday, January 4, 2026, the municipal pound enclosure will be demolished, and the occupants of the public land, including livestock traders and cattle fatteners located near the slaughterhouse, will face eviction.

Operators in the livestock and meat sector working around the slaughterhouse, as well as those at the Yeguere livestock market in Sector 10, District 2, are being invited to relocate to the designated livestock market in the village of Kiri, District 3, by no later than Saturday, January 3, 2026. Additionally, fresh meat vendors and vegetable sellers located near the slaughterhouse are ordered to relocate to the city's markets and open-air markets, with municipal services indicating the designated market facilities for their resettlement.

The President of the Special Delegation has appealed for civic responsibility and understanding from all stakeholders. He reaffirmed the city's commitment to maintaining an ongoing dialogue to find sustainable solutions for the livestock and meat sector, which remains essential for the population of Bobo-Dioulasso.
