Bam/End of Year: The National Police Contributes to the Reduction of Traffic Accidents

Bam: The operation to secure the end-of-year celebrations carried out by the Provincial Directorate of the National Police of Bam has made it possible to significantly reduce the number of traffic accidents and to strengthen the security of the population and their property in the province, the provincial director of the National Police of Bam, Chief Commissioner Kito Yaya Soulama, told AIB on Sunday.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the period from December 24, 2025, to January 2, 2026, saw the seizure of approximately 150 vehicles, including motorcycles and tricycles. These seizures resulted from various infractions, notably running red lights, performing stunts on public roads, and having faulty lights.

Commissioner Soulama specified that the majority of the seized vehicles were returned after payment of fixed fines and, in some cases, after the cessation of the observed infractions.

Regarding accidents, he indicated that as of January 2, 2026, three cases had been recorded: one in Imiougou, in the commune of Sabce, on December 28, 2025, and two in Kongoussi, in sector 1, on December 30, 2025. This situation is considered significantly better compared to previous years, which were marked by numerous accidents during the same period.

According to the police chief, this operation was a success thanks to Operation "WIBGA," launched on December 10, 2025, by the Minister of Security, Mahamoudou Sana. He commended the commitment of the mobilized police officers and the cooperation of the Bam population.

He concluded by announcing that the National Police will continue this type of mission in the province. Regarding road safety, he urged road users to respect the Highway Code and wear helmets.
