New Law on Customary Chieftaincy Restores Honor and Respect, Declares His Majesty P´-Pª

Ouagadougou: The law establishing the status of customary chieftaincy restores honor and respect to the custodians of tradition, according to His Majesty P´-Pª, the customary chief of P´. He made this declaration to AIB, highlighting the significance of the new legislation adopted by the National Assembly on January 14, 2026.

According to Burkina Information Agency, His Majesty P´-Pª expressed his satisfaction with the new status conferred upon customary chiefs by the MPSR II government. He noted that this development addresses long-standing issues, stating, "The colonizer did not leave us free; our children, who came to manage our country after independence, did not leave us free either." His Majesty emphasized that the new status brings more honor and respect to the traditional chiefs, urging them to deserve the trust from the government.

His Majesty further discussed the Faso Bud-Koare law, which complements the existing statute by empowering chiefs to manage disputes within their communities while leaving other matters to the formal justice system. He concluded, "If I were to speak on behalf of all the chiefs, I would say that we will do everything in our power to be worthy of the trust placed in us."
