Ouagadougou: Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo stressed on Friday, during his presentation on the situation of the Nation, that Burkina Faso recorded, for the 2025-2026 agropastoral campaign, a cereal production of more than 7 million tons, a historical surplus level for the country.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the 2025-2026 agricultural season saw a national cereal production estimated at over 7,000,000 tons, bringing the cereal needs coverage rate to 126.6%, a historic surplus for the country. The Prime Minister stated that rice production reached over 1,000,000 tons, marking an increase of 49.34% compared to the 2024-2025 season.
Speaking before parliament during his State of the Nation address, the Prime Minister emphasized that agriculture is the lifeblood of the economy and one of the major pillars of the struggle for national sovereignty. ‘These tangible results are the fruit of the development and rehabilitation of more than 35,000 hectares of irrigated areas and lowlands, the free or subsidized plowing of more than 51,000 hectares, enhanced support for producers, the subsidizing of nearly 70,000 tons of fertilizer, and the distribution of more than 12,000 tons of improved seeds,’ he explained.
Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo also indicated that this strategic direction of the State is supported by the Agro-Pastoral and Fisheries Offensive as well as the Presidential Initiative for Agricultural Production and Food Self-Sufficiency.
