Bale: At least 6,000 residents from various social backgrounds in the commune of Bagassi benefitted from a large-scale distribution of food, cooking oil, and clothing on Friday, February 13, 2026. The event was presided over by High Commissioner Martin Bako and sponsored by notable figures Gaston Kani Gnoumou and Bagnamou Ye.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the head of the special delegation, Souleymane Ouedraogo, stated that the distributed supplies included 904 fifty-kg bags of corn, 458 bags of rice, and 134 twenty-liter containers of cooking oil. The total value of these supplies was estimated at 30 million CFA francs, sourced from the municipality's budget.
This initiative aimed to support 6,000 individuals, including vulnerable households, former municipal employees, the women of the Green Brigade, and Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP). This marks the second year of this commendable effort by the municipal authorities to extend support to the community.
The handover ceremony witnessed a strong turnout from provincial and municipal authorities, along with local residents, reflecting the community's interest. Various speakers, including the High Commissioner, sponsors, and representatives of the beneficiaries, acknowledged the municipal authorities' dedication to supporting disadvantaged community segments.
Retired Colonel Gaston Kani Gnoumou, speaking on behalf of the sponsors, praised the special delegation's efforts. He emphasized that the ceremony symbolized solidarity and collective commitment rather than merely a food distribution event.
High Commissioner Martin Bako expressed his appreciation for the successful organization of the event and highlighted the importance of local solidarity. He encouraged continuous support from sponsors and traditional authorities to enhance future distributions, emphasizing the importance of relying on local resources over foreign aid.
