Kourittenga: The High Commissioner of the province, Moctar Ilboudo, visited the village of Balbzinko, commune of Yargo, to observe the results of a 0.40 ha wheat production plot belonging to producer Isidore Venegda. Wheat production was initiated as part of the food sovereignty policy championed by Captain Ibrahim Traore.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the High Commissioner, accompanied by a technical delegation, observed the state of maturity of the crop. This operation demonstrates the technical feasibility of this cereal in the Kourittenga province. The High Commissioner emphasized the responsiveness of the land when worked with determination.

This production aligns with the vision of the President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traore, which aims for food self-sufficiency through crop diversification. To achieve this, the producer received support, including seeds adapted to the Sahelian climate, technical guidance for irrigation management, and logistical support for optimizing yields.

The provincial director in charge of Agriculture for Kourittenga, Lionel Mari Aristide Wendingou Youma, has encouraged farmers with production capabilities to seek support, highlighting the availability of technical assistance, seeds, free plowing, and subsidized inputs. He assured that the entire harvest would be purchased by the two processing units available in Burkina Faso.

Achille Kambou, President of the special delegation of Yargo, expressed satisfaction with the economic prospects of the sector. He emphasized the importance of producing what is consumed locally and encouraged the population to engage in wheat production for its profitability.

The farm's success in Balbzinko now serves as a test case for the province, illustrating the potential to reduce flour imports through local production, thus strengthening food security and the rural economy in Kourittenga.
