Ouagadougou: The Burkinabe government announced on Wednesday that it has successfully mobilized more than 496 billion 966 million FCFA for the Patriotic Support Fund (FSP) between 2023 and 2025, surpassing its three-year forecast of 400 billion FCFA.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the funds raised were crucial in acquiring military equipment, including combat helicopters and armored vehicles, as well as supporting the Volunteers for the Defence of the Homeland (VDP). This announcement was made during a press conference led by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Dr. Aboubakar Nacanabo, as part of an accountability exercise.

Dr. Nacanabo highlighted Burkina Faso's unused endogenous capacities as evidenced by the substantial resources mobilized. Alongside him were key figures like Lieutenant-Colonel Mahamadi Sawadogo, commander of the Brigade of Volunteers for the Defence of the Homeland (BVDP), and Minister of Communication, Pingdwend© Gilbert Ou©draogo.

The fundraising efforts have seen remarkable success over the three years: in 2023, 99 billion FCFA was raised against a forecast of 100 billion; in 2024, 175 billion was mobilized against a forecast of 150 billion; and in 2025, 222 billion was collected, exceeding the 150 billion target. Dr. Nacanabo explained that the FSP serves as a vehicle for citizens to contribute to addressing the nation's security and humanitarian challenges.

Dr. Nacanabo emphasized that the money comes from voluntary contributions and levies. He acknowledged existing challenges, including misunderstandings about the levies related to the National Solidarity Fund, but assured that citizens recognize the importance of financial mobilization for restoring territorial integrity.

He reiterated the government's commitment to rigorous and transparent management of the FSP through accountability initiatives. As of February 15, 2026, the government had already mobilized 15 billion FCFA for the ongoing year, out of an anticipated 200 billion FCFA.
