Sissili: The president of the Special Delegation of Leo, Kassoum Koalaga, conducted a field visit to assess the ongoing sanitation and reforestation projects initiated in August 2025.
According to Burkina Information Agency, these efforts, backed by the National Bureau for Major Projects of Burkina Faso and the National Volunteer Program, aim to transform the living environment sustainably.
Koalaga, along with the town hall's secretary general, Zana Samba, and municipal police commander, Moumini Traore, inspected several strategic sites. The visit included checks on the volunteer cleanup site, household waste management system, and tree planting monitoring at the Regional Council's forest.
The head of the Special Delegation, Kassoum Koalaga, indicated that the sanitation program reached its intensive phase in December 2025, targeting the permanent eradication of illegal dumpsites. He outlined a strategy to install garbage bins post-dump destruction, encouraging residents to use these bins for waste collection every three days by volunteers.
Koalaga also mentioned the construction of a waste treatment site, facilitated by the partner association ADIF, to enable recycling. He called on partners and community members to support these mobilization efforts.
The municipal police play a crucial role in coordinating these activities. The commander noted that the Presidential Initiative for Community Development supplied fifteen tricycles and garbage bins, enhancing their operational capacity. The Technical Secretariat for High-Intensity Labor Works has been involved in clearing city gutters.
Ecological considerations are also prioritized. Authorities visited 180 seedlings planted in the Regional Council's forest, along with others planted by students and partners. Regular watering has improved seedling growth during the dry season, according to Commander Traore.
The police favor education over enforcement, with a radio program planned to raise awareness about sanitation issues. Traore believes in the community's maturity to address these matters before resorting to enforcement.
Local residents support the initiative, with a gas welder near cleaned areas expressing pride in the city's transformation and its public health benefits. Efforts are underway to promote good practices within the community.
The program involves 30 tricycle drivers provided by the National Volunteer Program, underscoring the commitment of the People's Progressive Revolution authorities to sustainable local development.
