Ouagadougou: The Stallions women are in full preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) football in their category Morocco 2026, and say they are confident about an honorable participation of Burkina Faso in the Kingdom of Morocco.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the training session on Thursday, February 19th, at the August 4th Stadium was open to the press. The president of the Burkina Faso Football Federation, Oumarou Sawadogo, came to encourage the players. Coach Pascal Sawadogo and his staff were in charge, leading the team through their drills. A friendly match between the women's national team, the Stallions, was on the agenda: the A team (the best players) against the B team.
After this test match, which saw the victory of the A team (3-1), the captain of the women's Stallions, Charlotte Millogo, expressed satisfaction with the team's progress. She noted, "The group is doing well. It's been going well since the start of the training camp. We are ready for the competition." Millogo acknowledged the pressure they are under but emphasized their readiness to manage it, stating their aim to surpass their previous AFCON performance.
The team's coach, Pascal Sawadogo, highlighted the team's preparation stages, explaining they are in the penultimate stretch of their training. He expressed confidence in the local players' fitness levels due to their regular training sessions and involvement in 16 championship matches. Sawadogo emphasized the importance of the upcoming three-week preparation period, especially for integrating professional players into the team.
The president of the Burkinabe Football Federation, Oumarou Sawadogo, expressed optimism about the team's potential, noting the players' commitment and eagerness. He mentioned the importance of uniting the team with the professional players to strengthen their competitive edge before the AFCON.
The Stallions are set to travel for two friendly matches against Morocco and will continue their preparations at the training center until the AFCON begins. Burkina Faso has been placed in Group B, based in Rabat, alongside South Africa, Ivory Coast, and Tanzania. The tournament will run from March 17 to April 3, with the opening match featuring host nation Morocco against Algeria in Group A.
