Hound©: The Association for the Promotion of Community Health and Integrated Social Development (ASCoSI) organized an advocacy workshop in Hound© as part of the "I Choose My Future" project, aiming to strengthen efforts to combat pregnancies in schools.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the meeting, chaired by the Secretary General of the province of Tuy, Dieudonn© Zeida, brought together various stakeholders, including administrative authorities, customary and religious leaders, and actors in education and child protection. The goal was to generate support and commitment to prevent school pregnancies in Hound©.
ASCoSI presented a mid-term review of the "I Choose My Future" project, which aims to reduce school pregnancy rates by creating a protective environment for young girls, encouraging them to stay in school, and promoting responsible sexual and reproductive health behaviors. Of the 18 targeted secondary schools, 16 have been visited, and more than thirty activities have been conducted, reaching 4,085 students, including 2,325 girls and 1,760 boys.
The workshop also featured a presentation on the legal framework and civil liability, followed by a call for general mobilization. Discussions identified factors contributing to school pregnancies and led to recommendations for addressing the issue.
Yacou Micha«l Ido, president of ASCoSI, stated that the project has a completion rate of nearly 70%. He emphasized the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to reduce the phenomenon of school pregnancies.
Dieudonn© Zeida highlighted the meeting's role in urging each actor to contribute to raising awareness about pregnancies during schooling, which adversely affects the educational paths of many young girls in Hound©.
