Zoundweogo: The Guiba residents launch the "Patriotic Sweep" initiative, an offensive against unsanitary conditions. Two weeks after their release, the submerged people of the commune of Guiba launched the "Patriotic Sweep" initiative on Saturday in several services to demonstrate their resolute commitment to a healthy environment.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this initiative is intended as an offensive against unsanitary conditions and is part of the promise made by those submerged to now be citizens concerned about a healthy environment. Immersed in the cleanup, supervisors and municipal service managers, armed with hoes, rakes, wheelbarrows, machetes, and other tools, transformed the grounds of the departmental high school, the environmental services building, the medical center, the town hall, the prefecture, and the police station into a vast sanitation site. Piles of garbage heaped here and there were reduced to ashes.
For the spokesperson of the submerged, Ouedraogo Ashley Farida, this action is a "patriotic sweep". "The values acquired during our immersion must now become inherent values for those immersed. We raise awareness best by example. And we don't intend to stop now. Other initiatives will follow this one," she said.
The local authorities congratulated the students for their sense of responsible citizenship. The head of the environment and living conditions department in Guiba, Lieutenant Coulibaly Thomas, praised the strong sense of patriotism shown by the young participants. "You didn't wait to be told to clean up your living environment. You took the initiative to do so. Know that the people are watching you and taking note of your actions. And this gesture deserves to be written in gold letters in the annals of our community."
As a reminder, the graduates of the commune of Guiba made their graduation ceremony on Saturday, February 14, 2026 under the name "Burkindlim Baoore" which means "inexhaustible hearth of integrity".
