Koubri PDS Honors Courage and Resilience of Women Traders

Koubri: The Koubri PDS pays tribute to the courage and resilience of women traders. On the occasion of the commemoration of International Women's Day, celebrated on March 8 of each year throughout the world, the president of the special delegation (PDS) of Koubri, Mr. Samade Leonard Gougou, accompanied by the secretary general of the town hall, Mahamadou Nonkouni, made a courtesy and recognition visit on Monday, March 9, 2026, to the fish market counter in the locality.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this outing is part of an effort to highlight the crucial role of women in the economic and social development of the community. Its main objective was to encourage and congratulate women fruit and vegetable vendors, as well as fish vendors and processors, for their remarkable contribution to the local economy and food security of the population.

Through their daily work, often carried out with courage, selflessness, and perseverance, these women constitute an essential link in the chain of value creation for fishery products and actively participate in the dynamism of the commercial activities of the municipality.

Addressing these women in the local economy, the PDS commended their bravery, resilience, and sense of sacrifice. It emphasized that the March 8th celebration is not merely a festive occasion, but above all a day to recognize the struggles waged by women worldwide for social justice, equal opportunities, dignity, and improved living conditions.

He urged them to continue their efforts while strengthening solidarity, unity, cohesion, and organization within their groups in order to consolidate their economic autonomy and influence in the local socio-economic fabric.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the departmental coordinator for women, Ms. Korotimi Sakana, expressed the traders' deep gratitude for this gesture of attention and consideration from the municipal authorities. She also took the opportunity to raise some concerns aimed at improving their working conditions.

Listening to these concerns, the PDS reassured the women of the availability of the municipal authorities to carefully examine their requests in order to provide appropriate responses where possible.

This visit demonstrates the willingness of the authorities of the municipality of Koubri to recognize the value of the work of women, true pillars of local development and essential actors in economic and social transformation.
