Burkina Faso: Gold and Energy Reform at the Heart of the Economic Strategy

Burkina faso: The President of Faso, Ibrahim Traore, placed gold management and energy sovereignty at the center of the national economic strategy, during an interview given to the national, sub-regional and international press.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Head of State emphasized the importance of building up gold reserves to guarantee Burkina Faso's financial independence. He revealed that this precious metal has already been used as leverage in certain strategic transactions, particularly for the acquisition of equipment to combat terrorism.

In this context, the government is working to strengthen control of the mining sector and to increase state participation in production units. On the energy front, President Traore acknowledged difficulties related to power outages, which he attributed in particular to a heavy reliance on electricity imports. To address this, several power plants are under construction to ensure gradual energy independence.

Captain Ibrahim Traore also mentioned the impact of international tensions, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, on hydrocarbon prices, while reassuring people about the maintenance of subsidies to protect the population.
