Food and Economic Sovereignty Celebrated at ‘Buy Local’ Day in Zondoma

Zondoma: The driving forces of Zondoma demonstrated their commitment to food and economic sovereignty through a "buy local" day which took place this Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at the Gourcy town hall.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the courtyard of Gourcy town hall was particularly lively this Wednesday. This day dedicated to local consumption was organized by the high commission of Gourcy as part of the third edition of the National Days of Patriotic Engagement and Citizen Participation (JEPPC).

A wide variety of local dishes, such as "babenda," "gaonr©," "boll-bolla," and a millet porridge called "borgo," were sampled, accompanied by a diverse selection of local juices. Beyond the food, locally processed products were also showcased, including traditional loincloths and non-timber forest products. The participants' sense of sovereignty and patriotism was further expressed through their attire, with most wearing Faso danfani or "lili pend©," both hallmarks of their traditional dress.

Accompanied by a large delegation of representatives from various institutions, the High Commissioner of the Zondoma Province, Aboubacar Sidiki Nab©, toured the stands to congratulate and encourage those who have chosen to make local consumption the path to our true sovereignty, as expressed by the Head of State in his message launching the JEPPC.

The province's top official was therefore pleased to observe the turnout and the diversity of the food, juices, and products on display. With the support of a local association, prizes were awarded for the best traditional attire and the finest dishes. This event embodies the theme of the European Heritage Days (JEPPC): "Food Sovereignty and Economic Patriotism: Together, let us cultivate our dignity through local production and consumption," which takes place from March 26 to April 9, 2026, throughout the country.

In addition to the "buy local" day, three public conferences, the raising of the colors, a blood donation session, a sanitation day, and radio broadcasts on the theme of the JEPPC were organized in Zondoma under the leadership of the high commissioner of the province.
