Nuru Burkina Faso Boosts the Productivity of Agricultural Cooperatives in the Commune

Kombissiri: NURU BURKINA FASO BOOSTS THE PRODUCTIVITY OF AGRICULTURAL COOPERATIVES IN THE COMMUNE: The NGO Nuru Burkina Faso, through its support, has enabled several producers who are members of agricultural cooperatives to achieve improved production levels. A certificate presentation ceremony was held on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, in Kombissiri to recognize their efforts.

According to Burkina Information Agency, achieving food self-sufficiency is a goal set by the Government of Burkina Faso through several implemented initiatives. To support the national agricultural policy, Nuru Burkina Faso has been deploying its expertise with rural stakeholders in the commune of Kombissiri since 2023.

Assetou Sawadogo, Executive Director of Nuru Burkina Faso, explained that the mission primarily aims to reduce poverty: "We support cooperatives to optimize soybean and peanut crop yields, while strengthening their economic autonomy," she said. The organization supports cooperatives to improve agricultural productivity, cooperative governance, and the economic autonomy of producers through capacity-building activities.

Over the past few years, several producer members of cooperatives have benefited from training and technical support focusing on good agricultural practices, cooperative management, the use of agricultural inputs, farm economic management, and the development of income-generating activities. Producers also had access to meteorological information during the rainy season production periods, which enabled them to improve their crop yields.

Notable achievements include the Namanegdzanga cooperative in the village of Koulp¨lga, which achieved the best performance in peanut production with a yield of 1.06 tons per hectare, and the Pawelgdboudou cooperative in Languila, which achieved the best soybean production with a yield of 1 ton per hectare. In recognition of these achievements, Nuru Burkina Faso awarded certificates of merit to the producers and agricultural cooperatives in the seven beneficiary villages.

Certificates of recognition were also presented to local authorities and rural development stakeholders, such as the Kombissiri town hall, the Baz¨ga provincial directorate, and the Village Development Councils (CVDs). Boureima Compaore, facilitator of the Namanegdzanga cooperative, noted that the training and guidance provided by Nuru Burkina Faso enabled them to achieve a peanut yield of 1.58 tons per hectare through the application of good agricultural practices. He encouraged other producers to commit to professional agriculture.

Hamado Nacoulma, representing the President of the Special Delegation of Kombissiri, thanked Nuru for this initiative, which he believes strengthens the commune's agricultural policy regarding food security. He added that the certificate presentation ceremony will further galvanize the cooperatives and motivate others to become involved.

As a reminder, Nuru Burkina Faso has been operating in the communes of Bousse, Kombissiri, and Sapone since its creation in 2022.
