France: The Paris Criminal Court sentenced former CEO of French cement company Lafarge, Bruno Lafont, to six years in prison with immediate incarceration on Monday. He was found guilty, along with the cement company and seven former executives, of financing terrorism in Syria in 2013 and 2014. They had paid terrorist groups to keep a factory operating amidst the war in Syria.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the company Lafarge, as a legal entity, was fined the maximum amount of £1.125 million. It will also have to pay, jointly and severally with four of its former executives, a customs fine of £4.57 million for failing to comply with international financial sanctions, another offense at the heart of this case.
