Burkina faso: The National Union of Musical Artists (UNAM), led by the president of the National Confederation of Culture (CNC), expressed its gratitude on Wednesday to the Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism, Pingdwende Gilbert Ouedraogo, for his actions in favor of the promotion of Burkinabe music.
According to Burkina Information Agency, on April 8, 2026, the Minister of Culture called on cultural stakeholders to make Burkinab¨ music a central focus of their programming. Two days later, in Bobo-Dioulasso, he reiterated this call in a local bar, urging DJs, promoters, and bar owners to promote the works of national artists more widely.
The president of the CNC, Telesphore Thoumbalou Bationo, highlighted that such closeness and commitment from the authorities is unprecedented in several decades, arousing hope and optimism, which should be welcomed. In a collective effort, the actors in the cultural sector came together to praise the Minister's commitment to promoting national music.
Received in audience by the Minister in charge of Culture, the artists, composers, DJs, and managers gathered within the National Union of Musicians described this initiative as a concrete action for promoting Burkinabe culture in general and music in particular.
The actors also raised concerns regarding the living conditions of artists, including issues of social protection and retirement. They took the opportunity to present a certificate and a gold record to the head of Communication and Culture.
The Minister of Culture reaffirmed his department's commitment to promoting Burkinabe works, assuring that no effort would be spared in this regard. He emphasized the talent and potential of Burkinabe artists, urging cultural stakeholders to continue their efforts by creating works that reflect and promote national values, in a dynamic focused on showcasing local heritage.
