Tenkodogo: The Grande Mutuelle des personnels de l'©ducation nationale (LGM) was officially presented this Thursday in Tenkodogo, during a public conference. This initiative aims to strengthen the social protection of education stakeholders through a solidarity-based system that complements existing mechanisms.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Chief of Staff to the Minister of Public Service, Emmanuel Sorgho, praised the initiative as "structured, efficient, and profoundly humane." He stated that the implementation of the LGM (Law on General Management) aligns with the national social protection strategy, marked by the progressive operationalization of Universal Health Insurance (RAMU). Sorgho emphasized that while RAMU does not cover all healthcare expenses, social mutuals complement this system by taking on part of the costs and offering other forms of solidarity.
Mr. Sorgho also highlighted that the State encourages the creation of social mutuals within socio-professional groups to strengthen workers' resilience against life's uncertainties, including illnesses, accidents, or financial difficulties. Beyond health, LGM intends to offer diversified services for the benefit of its members.
The Chairman of the Board and speaker, Adama Kafando, explained that this mutual insurance company incorporates several social welfare components, including a retirement supplement, life insurance to support beneficiaries in the event of death, and permanent disability insurance. He noted that the mutual also provides access to goods and equipment at social cost, contributing to the improvement of members' living conditions.
On the organizational front, the Regional Director of Education for Nakamb©, Bourbila Pierre Silga, announced the upcoming establishment of decentralized structures ranging from the communal sub-sections to the regional section. A large-scale awareness campaign will be launched in preschools, primary schools, and secondary schools to encourage widespread enrollment. Silga expressed confidence in achieving a high enrollment rate by the end of the year through intensified communication efforts on the ground.
Through the LGM (Local Solidarity Mechanism), education stakeholders in Nakamb© intend to build a genuine and sustainable solidarity mechanism, based on the principle of "all for one, one for all." The authorities present reaffirmed their commitment to supporting this initiative, seen as a crucial lever for the well-being of educational staff and the strengthening of the Burkinab¨ education system.
