Ouagadougou: Young people trained in plastic recycling in areas impacted by Nordgold Niou SA Simi Service, in collaboration with the Vim Yingré cooperative in Boussé, launched a plastic waste recycling training program on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, for young people from communities impacted by the activities of the Nordgold Niou SA mining company. The ceremony was presided over by the High Commissioner of Kourweogo Province, Mahamadi Congo, in the presence of administrative authorities from the affected communities.According to Burkina Information Agency, with the financial support of Nordgold Niou SA, Simi Services and Vim Yingré, which specialize in the collection and transformation of plastic waste, initiated this training for approximately thirty young people. Participants hail from Dalpelgo, Mané, Téma Bokin, Niou, Toéghin, and Boussé, and they will receive training on creating furniture and utilitarian objects from recycled materials.Siméon Windinkonté Ilboudo, the activities coordinator, explained th at the training is scheduled to last 30 days. During the first two weeks, trainees will learn the theoretical and practical processes of molding plastic bags and manufacturing items such as table-benches, slabs, chairs, and coffee tables. Additionally, they will transform used tires into garden furniture and other utilitarian objects. The final two weeks will be dedicated to reviewing and evaluating their progress.The High Commissioner of Kourweogo Province, Mahamadi Congo, emphasized the significance of this training, noting its potential for ecological benefit and as an avenue for self-employment and entrepreneurship. He encouraged participants to be diligent in attending the sessions.Sayouba Ouédraogo, the provincial director in charge of Youth and Employment, addressed the importance of entrepreneurship to the participants. This initiative aims to instill an entrepreneurial mindset, preparing young beneficiaries to potentially establish their own businesses post-training, thereby contributing to reduc ing unemployment and fostering local economic development.The young beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the initiative, recognizing it as a chance to diversify their income sources while enhancing their community's living environment.
