Zoundweogo: The municipality of Gon-Boussougou organized the first edition of its half-marathon on Saturday, under the theme "Sport, a Factor of Peace and Social Cohesion," for young people, with the aim of promoting peace and living together through sports. The event was presided over by the High Commissioner of the Zoundweogo Province, Julien Ouedraogo. The event was attended by administrative, customary, and religious authorities, as well as a sporting public mobilized around this unifying event.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the chairman of the special delegation, Pangassu Gninkan, stated that the objective of this initiative is to encourage the practice of sport in order to bring people together, while contributing to the promotion of health, social cohesion, and local economic development. The competitions, contested over distances of 15 km for men and 10 km for women, delivered their verdict at the end of the races.
In the men's competition, Roger Nion took first place, winning a trophy, a medal, and a prize of 75,000 CFA francs. On the women's side, Wendpagnagda Florence Kinda took first place, winning a trophy, a medal, and a cash prize of 50,000 CFA francs. The top 20 in each category received prizes.
The day ended with an awards ceremony and presentation of certificates of recognition, enlivened by performances from local artists, in a festive and fraternal atmosphere. This first edition of the Gon-Boussougou half-marathon is a promising initiative to strengthen community spirit in the municipality.
