Exchanges Between Young People and Authorities for Transparent Management of the Mining Development Fund

Mogtedo: The president of the special municipal delegation of Mogtedo, Nomwende Abdoulaye Kanazoe, presided over a municipal workshop on April 20 and 21, 2026, to discuss the management of the Mining Development Fund (FMD) and the consideration of the needs of young people. Around twenty participants from the special delegation, technical services, community structures, as well as young people (including gold miners and representatives of associations), took part in these exchanges.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the workshop provided an opportunity to review the FMD funds received by the municipality, present the projects already financed, and identify the priority needs of the populations, particularly those of young people. The two-day event facilitated direct dialogue between local authorities and young people, focusing on issues of transparency, accountability, and citizen involvement in the management of mineral resources.

During the workshop, participants formulated recommendations to enhance the consideration of youth concerns in the utilization of FMD resources. A roadmap was developed to continue the dialogue at the local level. This initiative is part of the Youth-led and Youth-led Peace Promotion (YPP) program, implemented by the NGO ORCADE. The program aims to promote transparent management of mining revenues, focusing on meeting the basic needs of young people, particularly in education, employment, and leisure.

The participants acknowledged the significance of the workshop, viewing it as an essential framework for consultation. It aims to strengthen local governance and prevent conflicts related to the management of extractive resources.
