Ouagadougou: The third edition of the Burkina Faso International Pharmacy and Parapharmacy Exhibition (Pharma Expo BF) will see the participation of 120 exhibitors and 1,500 visitors from diverse backgrounds and 11 countries in Africa, Europe, and Asia. The event, scheduled for May 7-9, aims to strengthen the fight against the circulation of substandard medicines in the country, the organizing committee announced Friday in Ouagadougou.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the chairman of the partnership and sponsorship committee of the Burkina Faso International Pharmacy and Parapharmacy Exhibition (Pharma Expo BF), Dr. Isma«l Guigma, who is also a pharmacist, stated that the event will revolve around the theme: "Access to essential medicines and the fight against substandard medicines."

He specified that the 2026 edition of Pharma Expo BF will bring together 120 exhibitors and 1,500 visitors from diverse backgrounds at the Ouaga 2000 International Conference Centre, with the aim of raising awareness about the dangers of substandard medicines in Burkina Faso.

Dr. Guigma, speaking to journalists in Ouagadougou on Friday during the announcement of the 3rd edition of Pharma Expo BF, indicated that the guest country of honor is the People's Republic of China. The event will also see the participation of South Africa, Brazil, the United Arab Emirates, Ghana, India, Italy, Morocco, Tunisia, Russia, and Turkey.

'Pharma Expo BF has now established itself as a major framework for exchange, reflection, and collaboration between players in the pharmaceutical sector, public authorities, as well as all stakeholders committed to a more efficient and equitable health system,' he argued. This theme calls upon every Burkinabe by highlighting two crucial issues: the need to guarantee equitable, continuous, and affordable access to essential medicines, and the imperative to strengthen the fight against the circulation of substandard medicines, which pose a serious threat to the health of citizens, explained Dr. Guigma.

According to him, the Salon aims to be a forum for exchange and raising awareness among the general public and healthcare professionals about the dangers of substandard medicines, the promotion of quality medicines, and the appreciation of advances and innovations in the national and international pharmaceutical sector. Several activities are planned for the event, including exhibitions, B to B meetings, scientific communications, project pitches, a pharmaceutical careers forum, and Pharma Night.

This 3rd edition of Pharma Expo BF is placed under the chairmanship of the Minister of Health, Dr. Robert Lucien Jean-Claude Kargougou, with the patronage of the President of the Transitional Legislative Assembly, Dr. Ousmane Bougouma.
