Mouhoun: The women of the Allah Barika association of Kona, in the province of Mouhoun, celebrated International Women's Day combined with Community Day on Saturday, May 9, 2026, in Kona. The event was held under the theme: "Social cohesion and resilience: the women of Kona united for sustainable development".
According to Burkina Information Agency, the ceremony was placed under the patronage of the President of the special delegation (PDS) of the commune of Kona, Ali Sanou. It gathered several administrative and customary authorities, heads of decentralized services, religious leaders, agricultural Volunteers for the defense of the homeland (VDP), as well as women from the marka, gourounsi, and dogon communities.
During the event, Zoye Yedan praised the initiative of the organizers and expressed her gratitude to the municipal authorities for their constant support in promoting social cohesion and peace in the municipality. Meanwhile, the women's representative, Marietta Kando, thanked all participants for their mobilization and encouraged women to remain committed actors in local development through mutual aid, solidarity, and strengthening community life.
The Secretary General of the Kona commune delivered the PDS message, paying tribute to women for their contribution to the socio-economic development of the commune and urging them to prioritize dialogue, tolerance, and unity in their community relations.
The event featured a parade, traditional dance performances, and an exhibition of local know-how. Participants were treated to demonstrations of loincloth weaving and presentations of traditional dishes, showcasing the cultural richness and dynamism of Kona's communities.
This celebration served as a framework for strengthening social ties and promoting cultural identities, contributing to peace and sustainable development in the community.
