Bougouriba: Twenty-seven women took part on Saturday, May 9, 2026, in Diebougou, in a women's cycling race organized as part of the 2nd edition of the Communal Day of Communities, an initiative aimed at promoting social cohesion, living together, and the participation of women in sports and cultural activities. The competition was officially launched by the chief of Diebougou, on the boulevard located near the central market, in the presence of the president of the special municipal delegation of Diebougou, the provincial director in charge of Sports for Bougouriba, and a crowd of spectators mobilized for the occasion.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the 3.6-kilometer circuit used by the competitors crossed several arteries of the city, notably in front of the Medical Center with surgical unit (CMA), the cathedral, and the Monument of the Idea, before a finish line judged in front of the Diebougou A public primary school. In a festive atmosphere and with enthusiastic support from the crowd, the participants delivered a hard-fought and suspenseful competition. At the end of the race, cyclist Ini Sabine Sou crossed the finish line first after a remarkable effort.
The winner covered the distance in 8 minutes and 25 seconds, for an estimated average speed of 25.7 kilometers per hour. She was followed by Nonmani Somda, who came in second, while Christelle Some completed the podium. The three best runners received cash prizes as a reward for their performances. In addition to her prize money, the winner took home a bicycle donated by the organizers.
To recognize the commitment and bravery of all the competitors, all participants also received symbolic rewards and encouragement. According to the organizers, this activity aims not only to promote the practice of women's sport but also to strengthen ties between the different communities living in the commune of Diebougou. This women's cycling race is part of a series of activities planned for the Community Day, which is themed around cultural identity and social cohesion.
