Noumbiel Directorate Launches Campaign to Combat School Dropout and Child Violence

Noumbiel: The Provincial Directorate in charge of Family and Solidarity is raising awareness among schoolchildren about school dropout. The Noumbiel Provincial Directorate for Family and Solidarity has been conducting awareness sessions in various schools since Tuesday, May 12, 2026, focusing on critical issues such as school dropout, the worst forms of child labor, child marriage, and sexual harassment. The initiative aims to strengthen the protection and promotion of children's rights, with a particular focus on the rights of girls in the province.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the region of Noumbiel, similar to the Dj´r´ region, faces significant challenges with school dropout and violence against children, particularly young girls. In the Dj´r´ region, the Regional Directorate in charge of Family and Solidarity (DRFS-DJR), which oversees child protection activities, documented 2,017 and 1,841 cases of violence against children in 2024 and 2025, respectively. These figures span various categories of violence.

In Noumbiel province, during the 2024-2025 school year, the primary education cycle saw over 1,164 dropouts from a total enrollment of 16,018 students, translating to a dropout rate of 7.27%. The ongoing awareness sessions are part of a concerted effort by protection actors to address these pressing issues.

With support from its partner, the NGO Plan International Burkina Faso, Gaoua office, the Noumbiel Provincial Directorate has implemented an awareness program across several schools. The program's objective is to transform societal attitudes, consolidate the existing system, and bolster mechanisms to protect children's rights, focusing particularly on young girls.
