Nakamb©: Governors and Health Authorities Embrace Malaria Scorecard

Tenkodogo: As a prelude to the delayed commemorative ceremony for World Malaria Day, the Permanent Secretariat for the Elimination of Malaria (SP/Palu) organised a meeting on Thursday in Tenkodogo to present the malaria scorecard. The meeting brought together regional governors, regional health directors, and technical and financial partners to strengthen the multi-sectoral commitment to achieving the "Zero Malaria" goal by 2030.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the meeting aimed to make the fight against malaria a shared responsibility among different development sectors, with the goal of accelerating the reduction of severe cases and deaths related to the disease. Speaking at the meeting, the permanent secretary of SP/Palu, Sidzabda Kompaor©, commended the commitment of administrative and health authorities in combating malaria. He noted that actions undertaken in 2025 had significantly decreased the incidence and deaths related to the disease.

Kompaor© highlighted that malaria, previously the leading cause of consultations, hospitalizations, and deaths, has now fallen to the fourth leading cause of death. He attributed these results to the leadership of administrative and health authorities and the involvement of partners. He urged governors and stakeholders to sustain this progress to achieve further reductions in severe cases and deaths by 2026.

In his opening address, the governor of the Nakamb© region, Yiy© Abraham Somdo, praised the mobilization of governors, regional directors, and partners from various regions. He appreciated the efforts made by administrative authorities despite their busy schedules, emphasizing that the meeting reflects a strategic direction of making the fight against malaria a multisectoral and shared responsibility.

The governor noted that the analyses from the scorecard presentation would help identify recommendations and strategic directions to improve performance in combating malaria. He invited actors to strengthen their commitment and partnership with the Ministry of Health and SP/Palu to achieve the expected results, aiming for zero malaria by 2030.

After discussions about the malaria scorecard, participants engaged in a sanitation day organized in front of the Boulgou High Commission, reflecting their desire to associate community actions with the fight against the disease. The commemoration activities will continue with a ceremony at the Tenkodogo Centre A school, presided over by the Minister of Health.

This series of activities demonstrates the commitment of health and administrative authorities to bolster awareness and community mobilization around the fight against malaria, a major public health issue in Burkina Faso.
