National Forum of Asset Accountants: AI at the Heart of Modernizing State Asset Management

Ouagadougou: The second edition of the National Forum of Asset Accountants commenced in Ouagadougou, focusing on the theme: 'Artificial intelligence and modernization of the management of the State's non-financial assets: what opportunities for asset accountants?' The forum aims to enhance the management of public assets through technological innovations.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Bourehima Ou©draogo, representing the Minister of Economy and Finance, emphasized the importance of the forum as a platform for exchange among heads of material accounting offices. He highlighted the event as an opportunity for asset accountants to share experiences and explore ways to strengthen their contribution to the modernization of state asset management.

Mr. Ou©draogo pointed out that artificial intelligence presents a significant opportunity to improve material accounting by enhancing automation, traceability, data analysis, and decision-making processes. He praised inventory accountants as the "vigilant guardians of public assets," acknowledging their role in preserving resources, securing public assets, and enhancing administrative credibility.

He underscored the strategic importance of material accounting in good governance, crucial for internal control, resource optimization, and combating losses and irregularities. He advocated for including rigorous control of the State's non-financial assets in the modernization of public finances.

Facing the advent of digital technologies, Mr. Ou©draogo encouraged participants to integrate technological innovations ambitiously into their practices, emphasizing that innovation complements human intelligence and effectiveness.

Djakaridja Barro, Director General of Materials Accounting, elaborated on the theme's relevance to the digital transformation within the Burkinabe public administration. He stressed that material accountants should embrace the digital revolution, as artificial intelligence can significantly aid in monitoring, inventory, and traceability of public assets.

The forum's agenda includes various presentations on topics such as evaluating performance metrics for material accountants and harmonizing administrative vehicle fuel allocation practices. The event aims to produce strong recommendations for review and implementation by the highest authorities, further strengthening the role of material accountants in the Burkinabe public administration.
