Zoundw©ogo: The Provincial Dialogue and Monitoring Framework of the Kiaka SA Mining Company of Zoundw©ogo (CPDSKZ) held its second ordinary session on Tuesday in Manga under the chairmanship of the High Commissioner of the province, Julien Ou©draogo, with the presentation of the activities, policies and management mechanisms of the mine, as well as their socio-economic benefits for local populations.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the High Commissioner highlighted the significance of the dialogue framework as a platform for exchanges and consultation concerning the mining company’s activities in the province. He encouraged participants to engage in “open and constructive” discussions to gain a deeper understanding of mining-related issues and the expectations of the local population. He emphasized that the session sets an important foundation for future work within the consultation framework and urged members to attentively listen to the various presentations.
Participants were briefed on the activities of Kiaka SA, with a presentation led by Dr. Christian Ou©draogo. The presentation covered the company’s history, employment policies, local procurement practices, and its complaint management mechanism. It was revealed that the mining project anticipates creating over 1,762 jobs over a period of 18 to 20 years, with 1,563 positions designated for men and 199 for women. Dr. Christian Ou©draogo stated that over 7.286 billion CFA francs have been injected into the local economy by supporting 35 local businesses.
The session also addressed the complaints handling mechanism, explaining that individuals with grievances related to the mine’s activities can contact the relevant department at Kiaka SA. If unresolved, they can escalate the issue through the consultation framework or pursue legal action. Discussions further covered the livelihood restoration program for those affected by the mining project and the community development program. Mine officials reported that approximately 400 million CFA francs have been invested in agriculture, education, and health sectors.
Additionally, Kiaka SA officials disclosed that more than 8 billion CFA francs have been injected into the regional economy between 2023 and 2025, with over 120 billion CFA francs returned to the Burkinabe state during the same period.
After the presentations, participants appreciated the opportunity for discussion and put forward several recommendations and advocacy points. The responses from mine officials were considered satisfactory by the members of the provincial dialogue framework.
