Ouagadougou: The President of the Special Delegation of the municipality of Bobo-Dioulasso, Comrade Laurent Kontogom, representing the Governor of the Guiriko region, officiated the launch of home-based palliative and geriatric care activities by the Mandy Association.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event was marked as a significant milestone for the community, with Laurent Kontogom highlighting the importance of palliative care as an essential addition to the existing healthcare services. He emphasized the necessity of dignified treatment for individuals with serious illnesses or those nearing the end of life, aiming to ease their physical, psychological, and social suffering.
The initiative was warmly welcomed by Kontogom, who acknowledged its role in alleviating the burdens faced by seriously ill and elderly individuals. He extended congratulations to the association’s promoter, Aminata Diallo-Glez, a prominent figure in Burkinabe cinema and audiovisual sectors, for her social commitment that enhances Burkina Faso’s reputation.
Kontogom stressed the importance of collective efforts for the initiative’s success, urging involvement from technical and financial partners, corporate entities through social responsibility, and volunteers willing to contribute.
Aminata Diallo-Glez, president of the Mandy Association, elaborated on the decision to expand to Bobo-Dioulasso due to increasing local demand. Since 2020, the association has operated from Ouagadougou and has observed heightened requests for services in Bobo-Dioulasso. Diallo-Glez noted the supportive and responsive nature of local authorities in facilitating this expansion.
The Mandy Association aims to enhance the quality of life for individuals with serious, progressive illnesses by reducing their suffering through home-based or hospital care. Diallo-Glez highlighted the comprehensive nature of palliative care, encompassing medical, psychological, and spiritual aspects, and stressed the importance of personal interaction and emotional support for patients.
Diallo-Glez called on the media, citizens, and supporters to advocate for the Mandy Association, thereby strengthening the support network for vulnerable populations.
