Zonse Hosts Patriotic Initiative to Combat Climate Change with Reforestation and Equipment Handover

Ouagadougou: The municipality of Zonse celebrated, this Saturday, the presidential initiative called “The Patriotic Hour to Green Up Faso” in an atmosphere marked by a strong citizen mobilization. The activity, chaired by the president of the Special Delegation (PDS) of the municipality, Wendinmi Frederic Ouedraogo, was combined with a handover of agricultural equipment to rural producers.

According to Burkina Information Agency, alongside the local population, administrative authorities and technical services, the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) as well as the Water and Forestry agents, under the leadership of the head of the departmental Water and Forestry service of Zonse, Madi Nikiema, took part in a large-scale reforestation operation. From 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., several species of trees were planted on the grounds of the town hall, the prefecture, the Zonse Basic Education District (CEB), and various public services in the municipality. The operation also involved households, who were invited to plant trees on their properties to contribute to restoring vegetation cover and combating the effects of climate change.

Following this reforestation activity, the PDS officially handed over agricultural equipment to several villages in the commune. The ceremony took place in the presence of the head of the Agricultural Technical Support Zone (ZAT), Pierre Tiono, who emphasized the importance of this equipment for improving agricultural yields and strengthening the resilience of producers to climate challenges. The equipment distributed is a donation from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), through the LOGMe II project, for the benefit of rural stakeholders in the municipality.

In his address, Wendinmi Frederic Ouedraogo commended the strong community mobilization and the support of the technical and financial partners. He urged the beneficiaries to make wise use of the equipment received and to ensure regular maintenance of the planted seedlings to guarantee their survival. This dual activity illustrates the commitment of the municipal authorities, partners and populations to environmental protection, food security and sustainable development in the municipality of Zonse.
