Ouagadougou: The High Commissioner of the province of Zoundweogo, Julien Ouedraogo, affirmed on Saturday that “the ecological revolution begins in our concessions, our schools, our workplaces and our villages,” inviting every citizen to actively engage in the preservation of the environment, on the occasion of the launch of the 8th edition of the National Tree Day (JNA), in Basbedo, in the commune of Gogo.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the High Commissioner indicated that the “Patriotic Hour to Green Up Faso” initiative reflects the Government’s desire to make greening the territory a national priority. This year’s theme, “My concession, my tree,” challenges each citizen on their role in preserving the environment. Ouedraogo stressed that each tree planted is a source of life, promotes soil fertility, and represents a legacy for future generations. He emphasized the importance of monitoring the plants after they are planted, stating that one cared-for tree is better than a hundred abandoned plants.
The provincial director of Water and Forests, Adama Kalmogo, highlighted that more than 800 plants, mainly medicinal species, have been planted on the two hectares of the Basbedo grove. These plants are expected to contribute to the preservation of biodiversity and the restoration of the vegetation cover. The president of the Gogo Special Delegation applauded the event’s organization in his municipality, noting the national initiative “5 million trees in one hour.” He also announced plans for drilling a well on the grove site to facilitate watering the saplings.
The chief of Basbedo welcomed the selection of his village to host the ceremony and assured the authorities of the people’s commitment to maintaining the plants.
