Liptako: The Secretary General of the Liptako region, Auguste Kinda, initiated the 8th edition of the National Tree Day (JNA) in Dori by planting seedlings at the governorate. The event saw participation from regional bodies, citizen watch groups, and humanitarian actors.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this symbolic planting heralds the launch of “The Patriotic Hour to Re-Green Faso,” themed “My Concession, My Tree.” This initiative is aimed at enhancing citizen involvement in preserving the environment and restoring vegetation cover compromised by climate change and human activities.
The region’s secretary general emphasized that this campaign embodies Burkina Faso’s dedication to forest heritage recovery. He highlighted that the campaign would involve planting thousands of plants across various public and private spaces, including schools, places of worship, and family compounds.
The regional director of the Environment, Dramane Fogo, stated that 10,000 plants will be planted in the Liptako and Soum regions. This effort is part of a larger strategy to restore ecosystems and combat land degradation, with support from the populace, technical services, and local authorities.
A national platform with monitoring sheets has been established to track the trees planted, ensuring effective action monitoring. Through National Tree Day, Liptako’s authorities reaffirm their commitment to environmental protection and vegetation restoration, urging the population to support this initiative to combat desertification and create a healthier environment for future generations.
